Prostate-CancerMaking an extremely interesting disclosure, a recently conducted study, which was carried out by researchers from the Seattle-based Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, has claimed that circumcision may well result in lowering a man?s odds for falling prey to prostate cancer.

During the course of circumcision, the tissue enveloping the penis head, which is also known as the foreskin, is taken off. While it has been claimed by a number of researchers that it may result in reducing the chances of various Sexually Transmitted Diseases as well as that of penile cancer, it is widely known that circumcision is also including some or the other sort of controversy and threats, counting the risk of infection and bleeding. As a result, routine circumcision is not recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics.

The study, which took into account in excess of 3,400 men, 1,754 out of which were suffering from prostate cancer, basically shed light on the pros and cons of circumcision, especially when undertaken on a routine basis.

Going through circumcision ahead of initial sexual intercourse was allied to a 15% less risk of catching prostate cancer. These findings of the study, which have been made available in the recent edition of the journal Cancer, were based on extended study conducted by a team of researchers from the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.

While expressing her contradictory opinion in this regard, along with mentioning what all harmful consequences can be seen if one goes for routine circumcision, Elizabeth Kavaler, MD, said: ?This is a stretch. Yes, there are medical reasons for circumcision, but prostate cancer prevention is not one of them. Urologists recommend circumcision at birth for prevention of sexually transmitted diseases and penile cancer?.
